FUTURO PELO
A BIGGER SPLASH
FUTURO’S DEBUT ALBUM IS OUT SINCE FEB 7TH
on Pain Surprises records & Délicieuse Musique records
With his fringe right above the eyes, Benjamin Sportès is still only a child when he discovers Elvis Presley's footwork on TV. He sees a truth in it. Overwhelmed by a desire for the stage that he can never hide, he is catapulted into the world of music, first imitating the King with a broom as an instrument. Then in the booming 80s of the new "alternative" scene, he played as soon as he could with his rockabilly band (the Wanderers) alongside other bands, such as Mano Negra, Wampas ...
After several years spent in an art school in London, in the 90s, he designed the muppets in the youth TV show "the Minikeums", he sang in his solo project Sportès and records an album with Eric Serra (music writer for the movies "Léon", "Subway", "Le Grand Bleu"...) before discovering the possibilities offered by computer music.
He then launched a electro duo called Sporto Kantès which still whistles today in the ears of a great number of people. The adventure alongside Nicolas Kantorowicz, bassist of the Wampas, will last fifteen years and four albums.
In 2013, he turned the page and dove into a period full of questions about the future. He ended up with a temporary rejection of music and a profusion of penciled, scribbled, black, caustic, and poetic drawings...
In 2016, music took over when he decided to present his new solo project called Futuro Pelo (future hair for a man who no longer had it). The teams of Pain Surprises Records (Jacques, Jabberwocky, Miel de Montagne...) and Délicieuse Musique enthusiastically welcomed this joyful mix of pop, of texts sung in French, English, Spanish, and of samples found in his own collection of sounds of a wide range of styles (rockabilly, world, funk, modern pop, house…). Futuro Pelo compiles his science of pop and his findings in two successive EPs released in 2017 (Bluff) and 2018 (Eden).
The birth of Futuro Pelo goes along with the birth of Monsieur Bouche (Mr Mouth) whom appears on the covers and the video clips. Monsieur Bouche is the imaginary friend of Benjamin Sportès, his way of expressing in drawing what he cannot say orally.
At the start of 2020, Futuro Pelo releases his first album "A BIGGER SPLASH", in reference of David Hockney and as an allegory to the great leap of the first album. With this title, Benjamin Sportès also materializes a leap into the void, the need to "say" things, to avoid distraction and to be closer to the emotions. Twelve years of psychoanalysis certainly guided him towards this approach of life.
